If you are an iPhone user, did you know that Clean Energy Charging is turned on by default when you set up your phone or after you update to iOS 16.1? Perhaps you’ve noticed your iPhone charging slower after updating. When turned on, the iOS will only recharge the iPhone battery when the electrical grid uses cleaner energy sources like wind or solar.

Clean Energy Charging is only available in the United States and works with Optimized Battery Charging to learn your charging habits. Clean Energy Charging only works in locations where you spend the most time and regularly charge your iPhone, such as at home and work. This feature doesn’t engage if your charging habits vary or if you’re in a new location; therefore, location settings must be turned on for Clean Energy Charging to activate.

You may also override Clean Energy Charging as needed. When Clean Energy Charging suspends charging, you will see a notification when your iPhone will be fully charged. If you need your battery charged faster, touch and hold the notification and select Charge Now.

If you’d like to turn Clean Energy Charging off on your iPhone, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging and turn off Clean Energy Charging.
